Ok, more info. While it took longer, even if the debug msg is set, the unit eventually did the same thing. So far, I've changed out the keyboard, the DSRIQ module, and the ethernet patch cable, with no significant change. Only "original" directly connected parts are the monitor and the mouse. I also tried changing the keyboard type to "Unix", and setting ICMP ping and SNMP to disable; and enabled video noise compensation. Just on the odd chance this was happening due to some sort of "hacking" attack, I also set the gateway IP to some bogus value to keep any "outside" folks out of it. Still no luck. Now I've got the unit basically "stand alone" - only the console and network ports are connected to anything - to see what happens this way. I still think it's strange, though, that I never saw this type of behavior *until* I upgraded the 1021 and the 8020 to 3.7.1.23. I can't really remember where the 1021 was, but the 8020 was significantly downrev'd. I had to do at least 2 intermediate upgrades before I could load 3.7.1.23. Unfortunately, I can't seem to take them back below 3.7.1.9. And even there the problem still occurs.
