Problem

Some touchscreen brands do not have mouse or keyboard inputs for a Matrix switching system setup, but they do work when directly connected to the target device, which is usually a Windows® 7 server.

Solution

If a target server is connected directly to the target, it uses a generic windows driver for the touchscreen. When you connect the touchscreen through the Matrix switching system, it does not recognize the touchscreen anymore and identifies it as an unknown USB device.

This issue is resolved if you install the latest touchscreen drivers of the manufacturer. This ensures the Windows operating system recognizes the manufacturer vendor ID (VID) and product ID (PID) and uses the device drivers of the manufacturer to get the mouse working on the touchscreen. If you plug the touchscreen directly to the target device and find this works right away with generic drivers, you should still install the latest drivers of the manufacturer. If/when the touchscreen is moved to the Matrix switching system, it will no longer work without the drivers.

After installing the touchscreen drivers, if you access the Windows device manager and check the USB human interface devices (HID), the touchscreen name will appear in the list, and if the drivers were not installed, the Matrix switch reports the unknown device.
