The target devices that have connected to the PDUs but not to the ACS are Intel based HMCs. So If I was to use an unused ACS port it would only be a placeholder for the name. That would meet the need as long as I had spare ACS ports I could use for this purpose. I was hoping that there would be some other appliance type that could be used so I didn't have to rely on having spare ports on an ACS. So instead of "Generic Device" I could select something that DSView didn't need to validate but would allow me to merge the PDU outlets.
The natural extension of this is the ability to associate power outlets to appliances managed by Avocent such as the ACS and MPU.
Given some time I can poke around and see if any of the other appliances Avocent DSView supports can be used for this purpose. Long-term I would like to see the generic device have exactly the same functionality in this regards as all other ports. So consider this a feature request. Or if I need to engage Avocent via a different process to do a feature request let me know the process and I'll kick it off.
