I currently have an Avocent 2SVDVI10 2-Port KVM Switch. Had it for years, it serves me very well!
Now looking to add a brand new all-in-one computer into the mix here, and was seriously considering an Apple iMac. However cost and other factors have pushed me back to the Windows camp, not least the space considerations of adding an Apple Wireless Keyboard and Magic Trackpad to my work surface here!
Then the penny dropped! If I opt for an All-in-One PC, then my setup can stay basically as it is, and service all three PCs -- provided I swap out my 2SVDVI10 for its 4SVDVI10 4-Port big brother. In practice I will also probably buy a more up-to-date wired USB2 keyboard, and a wireless mouse too. That doesn't change anything vis-a-vis the Switch, and my two questions relate specifically to the Switch:-
1) My wiring is all "plumbed in", in wiring looms held in place with tie-wraps. To change any power module is not a task for the faint-hearted. My online research suggests the 2SVDVI10 and 4SVDVI10 both use exactly the same wall wart power module. Please confirm? If this is true, then adding two ports becomes dead easy.
2) I am seeing plenty of these products on offer Stateside, but not here in the United Kingdom. Are you aware of any UK source?
3) If not, can I simply buy a 4SVDVI10 online from the U.S. and use my existing PSU?
4) Any firmware change needed to use it here?
5) Anything else I should be aware of?
Early comments would be appreciated so that I can press ahead with planning how this, and a pile of other new kit, is to be added to my Computer Room to support this new PC.
Your help is appreciated.
