Thank you everyone! I was thinking the Config ID was the issue, because we changed that the other day thinking this was a device ID - as we are cross-connecting a few KVM's. Setting the ID back to 000000 as with the AMWorks software, unfortunately didn't have positive results. We had also previously made sure the firewall was off... but this time also killed Kaspersky, which seems to have been blocking a port. Issue resolved, we have been able to update to the latest firmware. much appreciated, Dave

Forum Post: mpu 8032 targets with black screen
Hi, We recently installed 4 (1 master, 3 cascade switches) mpu 8032s. We are on the latest firmware version - and all 4 switches are on the same version. We are consistently getting black screens appear when connecting to targets. These black screens only seem to clear when we reboot the master switch. We can connect for awhile, but then after a few connections we get the black screen and are forced to reboot. The PCs we tested on were running the recommended version of JAVA and the recommended browser version - according to the Avocent documentation. Is anyone else experiencing this? If so, what possible solutions are there, other than rebooting every night? Thanks!

Forum Post: RE: Unable to update firmware for AMX5000
sorry - one more question... I see the latest firmware version is 3.6.0.0 ... however, I don't see the download link for that version, it's just the MIB files. I even looked with an FTP client to see if the folder is there, but I don't see it. The latest I can find is 3.5.1.3. The reason I'm looking for it is that one unit we have came with 3.6.0.0 installed (from factory). thanks, Dave

Wiki Page: AD Authentication in DSVIew 4.5
Symptoms: The bug exhibits itself only on a Windows platform that has configured the DSView server to use AD as its authentication service. It appears that not all AD servers are similarly affected. The main issue is that AD domain users are unable to log in or browsing via DSView when using d omain/username credential format. Synopsis: A user upgrades his Windows platform DSView to 4.5.0.138 Some or all of his AD users can’t log in. -OR- A user has configured his AD server and he is not able to see all of his users in DSView. Customer Fix: A new DSView.jar file has been generated containing the fix. The process to install it follows: Stop DSView service Copy new DSView.jar over old jar Restart DSView service Test fix HINT: 4.5.0.140 has the fix already in and this fix / patch is not needed

Forum Post: How to reset Dell 2161DS ? In "secure mode"
Please help! I recently purchased a Dell 2161DS used. When I connect it via serial port to a terminal, it immediately asks for a password. I cannot even get to a main menu. The documentation suggests someone put it in "secure mode" so that even the main menu is password protected. I can connect a computer directly as an "analog" user, but the unit doesn't show up on my network when I plug in the LAN, presumably because the IP is set to 176.16.10.XX and all my stuff is on 192.168. Therefore, none of the troubleshooting/reset steps I find on the internet work for me, because I cannot even get to the main menu to choose anything. For example, I found this: http://community.emerson.com/networkpower/support/avocent/kvmip/dsr/w/wiki/471.dsr-password-override-procedure but again the main menu is blocked. How can this unit be reset? Frustrating...I bought a whole lot of SIP's as well, hope it wasn't a waste.

Forum Post: default password changed after 3.6.0.0 firmware update
Hello, We've been updating firmware on our KVM matirx, and eventually found the latest 3.6.0.0 for the 5010. After applying this firmware through AMworks (which we had done a few times leading up to this version), the default password for "admin" no longer seems to be what we had previously (we had changed it from the default way back). We have tried all known default passwords, such as "password", etc... but nothing seems to be it. We then rolled back to 3.5.1.3 which had previously been ok, but now the same issue exists. Is there a new default admin password? Is there a way to reset the admin password? thanks, Dave

Forum Post: DCP symbol issue - showing wrong values
ISSUE: Customer gets wrong values on free capacity in terms of free HE, because DCP is showing 2 HE instead of 1.5. Issue occurs when trying to use Juniper Device which consumes 1.5 HE in a Rack ( http://www.juniper.net/assets/us/en/local/pdf/datasheets/1000203-en.pdf ) RESOLUTION: DCP does not support fractional rack units. It only supports whole rack units. For example, if you have a 1.5 RU symbol, it will take up 2 RU. If you have a symbol that is 1.7501 inches, it will take up 2 RU.
