Forum Post: UMG CLI Reference

Is there a PDF reference of the CLI for the UMG4000 appliance? It looks like there are a lot of things that can be done via that interface, likely much faster than through the web GUI, but I can't find a reference specific for the UMG, and I don't want to go poking around and end up breaking something without knowing how to fix it. things I'm looking for - rename targets ( especially PDU outlets ) - configure target connection options - delete a target and force the "re-discovery" of a specific port thanks, MJ

1) Rollack the UMG , to a previous version: - locally connected to UMG, with a Monitor / kb /mouse (using a serial connection would also work) - power cycle the unit - when the boot menu comes up, choose from the list the “earliest / oldest” FW version available - click ENTER and wait for the unit to reboot NOTE: This method will restore appliance functionality, without deleting / affecting its network configuration. The appliance can be upgraded afterwards, to the desired version. 2) Netboot recovery I MPORTANT: before starting this procedure, remove any physical and/or logical SP attached to the UMG !!! - u se a serial connection ( ADB0036 / DB9-RJ45 serial adapter and a CAT5/CAT6 straight cable) and an TFTP / FTP Server having the .ISO image uploaded on it - power cycle the unit - when the boot menu comes up, choose from the list the “Netboot recovery", and follow the procedure attached, in order to override unit's FW NOTE: This type of recovery will overwrite all firmware and configuration settings stored on the hard drives of the appliance and no data will be retained. 3) B oot from USB flash drive: this is basically an upgrade method, and works ONLY if you still have access to the console menu, while locally connected with a Monitor / kb / mouse - Format USB drive to FAT32 - Download and extract the UMG firmware to USB stick - Login into the UMG locally, default login admin /admin - ALT + F2 to switch to user shell - Insert USB stick with firmware into UMG - Select Option 5 from menu -> "Update Firmware"

You mean that under the 3.3.0.27, you can not launch serial session by LDAP user, right ?

I can launch a serial session, I just can't connect. If i authenticate to the UMG appliance with a username of "MJenne", when i try to launch a serial session the appliance is using the same username when trying to ssh into my network switch. I need the UMG device to NOT pass the username of the current user in the SSH session. MJ

Hello Mj, I think at this stage you should open a case, as I think that is working as designed. But we can always test here and see what we find to work around your issue. Please contact support.avocent@emerson.com or call the support line for your local support center.

I have several DSR2035's and have previously had to update firmware to compensate for old certificates and new versions of JAVA. It now seems they will not work at all with JAVA8+ I have tried the exceptions and changing the security settings in the ini file to no avail. I have the latest firmware. Can someone please point me in the right direction to get remote access re-enabled with JAVA8? Sorry if this is already posted somewhere, I looked but couldn't find anything..... TIA>
